12-6-13 dodge county accident investigation

The Dodge County Sheriff says investigators will try to determine if safety upgrades are necessary at an intersection that was the scene of a scary accident this week involving three semi tractor trailer units.  One of the drivers, 25 year old Alexander Gross of Theresa, was critically injured when his semi smashed into a large 25,000 pound roll of steel that came off of one of the trailers.  Dodge County sheriff Pat Ninmann says the accident happened when a driver on Highway P failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of state highway 33.  Ninmann says fog may have been a factor.
Ninmann says that intersection has been the scene of several serious traffic accidents over the years.  "We're going to have our Highway Safety Commission take a look at that intersection again and see if maybe we can some flashing reds or what can be done,"  Ninmann told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.  "It seems we've had quite a few severe crashes at that 33 and P location and we need to see if there's something more that we can do to try and prevent these crashes from occurring."
