1-16-14 fdl city council considers rescinding bicycle-sidewalk ban

The Fond du Lac city council  will consider an ordinance at their meeting next week that would allow bicycles on downtown sidewalks.  Public Works Director Jordan Skiff says current ordinance bans bicycles on sidewalks on Main Street from Johnson Street to Western Avenue.  But Skiff says the proposal to rescind the city’s bike-sidewalk ban was fueled by some downtown business owners.  Skiff says the business owners want to find ways to make the downtown more accessible to people on bikes.  Skiff says bicyclists could still be ticketed for unsafe behavior on sidewalks.
