1-8-14 cold weather-starting your car

Local auto mechanics have been busy this week responding to cars with dead batteries and vehicles that have become stranded.  Jerry Cords works at Scotty’s Auto Works on Pioneer Road.  "Its been very busy. A lot of tow-ins, lot of no starts,"  Cords told WFDL news.  Cords has a tip to make it easier for your car’s engine to turn over when Its cold…turn the key until the indicator lights come on…wait a few seconds,
then turn it over.  "What you always have to remember is when you stop your car, your car is probably warm, so its operating at let's say 200 degrees.  When you leave it sit for four hours that engine is back to zero again,"  Cords says.  "...so what you want to do is turn your key on...don't start cranking it over right way, wait three to five seconds, then crank it over."   Turning on your car lights for a few seconds before turning the key will also help energize a cold battery.
