1-7-14 uw president search

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A finalist for the University of Wisconsin System president says his top priority would be rebuilding trust with the Legislature.  Republican lawmakers have been at odds with the system for years. Kevin Reilly, the system's last president, resigned last month after taking intense criticism from GOP lawmakers for allowing campuses to build massive reserves while raising tuition.
Robert King, a former New York legislator and president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, is one of three finalists for the president's post.  He said during a video conference Monday his top agenda item will be rebuilding relationships with the Legislature. He says his stint as a legislator gives him credibility with lawmakers and he understands how they think.  The Board of Regents is expected to make a hiring decision Thursday.
