9-5-13 former mayville high school teacher going to prison for having sex with student

A former Mayville High School Spanish teacher is going to prison for having sexual contact with a 17 year old student.  Calling it a very serious, egregious offense, Fond du Lac Judge Dale English sentenced Shannon Cardinal to two years in prison and one year extended supervision.   The defense was asking for probation and some conditional jail time.   Cardinal earlier pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault of a student by school staff.  Eleven other counts were dismissed and read into the record.  Investigators say Cardinal had sexual intercourse with the student on multiple occasions with the first encounter at the teacher’s residence near Oakfield when the boy was 16.
