9-5-13 former milwaukee county sheriff's sergeant convicted of child sex assault in fdl county

A former Milwaukee County Sheriff’s sergeant accused of sexually assaulting young girls he was videotaping at a Fond du lac County campsite has been convicted as part of a plea agreement. At a hearing Thursday afternoon in Fond du lac County Circuit Court  Philip Wentzel pleaded guilty to first degree sexual assault of a child and two counts of second degree sexual assault of a child.  Nine other counts were dismissed and read into the record.  Fond du Lac judge Gary Sharpe ordered a pre-sentence investigation.  A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 4th.    According to a criminal complaint videos obtained from Wentzel show him performing sexual acts on girls ages seven, 14 and 15 and the girls appeared to be drugged.  The incidents allegedly occurred in May of 2010 at a campsite near Long Lake in southeast Fond du lac County.  Fonddu lac County Sheriff’s lieutenant Cameron McGee says Wentzel shared the photos through an Internet peer to peer file sharing network.  Wentzel is currently in prison in Indiana serving a 40 year sentence for possession of child pornography.
