9-17-13 fdl lawmaker introduces equal access bill
A Fond du Lac lawmaker has introduced a bill that would
allow all students equal access to extra curricular activities at a public
school. Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says he
decided to introduce the bill after attending a conference last week on
virtual schools. The bill would allow students who are being home-schooled or
in a private school the opportunity to participate in athletic and extra curricular
activities at the public school, if their school doesn’t offer the same program. "I believe that students that are not attending the public schools, their families are paying taxes to the state and the community, and they should have access to those programs wherever its practical," Thiesfeldt told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.
