A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s captain says a proposed bill
that would require a hands-free device while using a cell phone while driving
is a good start. A pair of Democratic state lawmakers are introducing the
measure in Madison. Sheriff’s captain Rick Olig says all sheriff’s squads are
equipped with hands-free
phones. "You are still somewhat distracted because you're talking or thinking about things other than driving, but its still better than having only one hand on the wheel," Olig told WFDL news. A state patrol study shows that inattentive driving was a
factor in 18 percent of crashes and 14 percent of fatal crashes.
