2-19-14 bonduel man convicted of theft from fdl businesses

A Bonduel man accused of stealing more than $100,000  from two Fond du Lac County businesses has been convicted.   At a sentencing hearing in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon 30 year old Christopher Gustavus pleaded no contest to one felony count of identity theft for financial gain and one misdemeanor count of  theft.   As part of a plea deal more than 80 misdemeanor theft counts were dismissed and read into the record.  The charges Gustavus was convicted of  carry a maximum sentence of nearly seven years in prison and $20,000 in fines.  Fond du Lac judge Gary Sharpe ordered a pre-sentence investigation.  According to a criminal complaint Gustavus used a company credit card and a PayPal account to transfer funds out of a computer service he worked for to purchase several items including furniture and electronics equipment.. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cameron McGee says the alleged
thefts occurred between August 2011 and April 30th of this year.  McGee says the dollar amount of the fraudulent transactions total more than $114,000.
