Wisconsin consumer protection officials are warning
residents about a new cell phone scam.
Division of Trade and Consumer protection administrator Sandy Chalmers says the one ring scam tricks consumers into
making expensive international calls. Chalmers says your cell phone will ring once
but no voicemail is left and the scammer hopes you call back. Chalmers says the calls are being generated from the
Carribean. Chalmers says while you wait on hold you are being charged
for international phone fees starting at around $20. The longer you wait the more you are charged.
