MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The first
attack ad in the Wisconsin governor's race has hit airwaves three days earlier
than originally planned. The Republican
Governors Association is paying for the statewide ad against Democrat Mary
Burke. RGA spokesman Jon Thompson says
the ad was ready earlier than thought, so it began running Sunday instead of
Wednesday as originally planned. The ad
attacks Burke's role in Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's administration as
Department of Commerce secretary from 2005 to 2007, spotlighting an audit that
was critical of the agency. The ad also
targets outsourcing of jobs overseas by Trek Bicycle Corp., without referring
by name to the company where Burke served as an executive. Burke spokesman Joe Zepecki says the ad is
meant to distract from Gov. Scott Walker's job creation record.
