2-17-14 residential burglary suspect says he's a heroin addict

WFDL news has learned a former Waupun man was on probation for residential burglaries in Fond du lac county when he allegedly went on a Dodge County burglary spree last December.  Thirty two year old Nicholas Dambruch was charged  last week in Dodge County Circuit Court with ten counts of party to the crime of burglary as a repeat offender in connection with home invasions in Lomira, Mayville, Iron Ridge and Columbus.  A year ago Dambruch was placed on probation for three years with six months in jail for burglaries in Waupun.    Following his arrest  in Dodge County Dambruch’s probation was revoked and on February 4th  Fond du Lac judge Peter Grimm sentenced Dambruch to six years in prison and five years extended supervision for violating his probation.  According to court records Dambruch told his probation agent he was a heroin addict, used heroin on a daily basis but was able to skirt the system when he passed two unobserved drug tests.  Waupun Police Chief Dale Heeringa says the fact that drugs are a factor unfortunately doesn’t come as a surprise.  'The heroin situation with these burglaries, that's getting to be very commonplace in our area.  A lot of these property crimes, after we arrest the people,  the end result is they are stealing your t-v, firearms, your jewelry out of your home, its ending up in Milwaukee, Madison and elsewhere for heroin,"  Heeringa said.
