Some Fond du Lac school board members are questioning why
more strength and conditioning courses are planned at the high school after a
new strength and conditioning course was added this year. At a workshop session this week the school board discussed a proposal to add seven new courses at the high school next school year including three
additional strength and conditioning classes. School Board member Mark Jurgella says he questions whether strength and conditioning is better suited as an extra-curricular activity for athletes instead of the
regular curriculum. "Certainly if its serving the student body at large and making it a healthier student body I'm all in favor of that," Jurgella said. "We were told that about 30 percent of the enrollees are non-athletes. So I think that's a good thing. But it still seems this is an avenue for the athletic programs." Jurgella says he wonders if additional strength and conditioning courses are taking away from potential academic offerings. "That's a good question. Certainly the other four classes that are being brought forth for next year look like very good courses."
