State DNR officials are expressing concern about the
possibility of a patchwork of rules
concerning rifle hunting for deer when the annual nine-day gun deer season opens November 23rd. The DNR announced last month that rifles will be allowed
statewide for the hunt, except where municipalities enact local restrictions. Towns and villages in 18 counties across eastern and western Wisconsin including Fond du Lac county are deciding if there are
public safety reasons to prohibit rifle hunting for deer.
The DNR announced the end of shotgun-only counties for deer hunting in Wisconsin as of November 1st. State DNR warden Todd Schaller says the concern is having
dozens of differing local regulations. The Eldorado town board will discuss an ordinance
restricting rifle use during the gun deer hunt at a special meeting this week. The meeting will be held at 7pm Wednesday at the Eldorado Community Center.
