11-2-13 squad car collision sends fdl police officer to the hospital

Two Fond du Lac police officers were treated and released from St. Agnes Hospital after their squad cars collided at a downtown Fond du lac intersection Friday night.  The accident happened around 9pm Friday at the intersection of Western Avenue and Macy Street…as both female patrol officers were responding to a report of a  fight.  Ann Gneiser witnessed the accident and dialed 911.  "There was a cop that was coming down Macy Street and another coming down Western Avenue and the one on Western was going pretty fast and she had a yellow to a red light and the one coming down Macy just turned green and they collided,"  Gneiser told WFDL news at the scene.  "I dialed 911 right away.  The police officer that was coming down Macy, she wasn't hurt, but the one coming down Western...she was in the passenger seat."    Both squad cars  appeared totaled.  One of the squads knocked down the streetlight at  the southeast corner of the intersection.  The other squad smashed into the back an unoccupied vehicle that was parked on Western Avenue.   Lynette Duley is a registered nurse and ran over to check on the injured officer.  Duley says the injured officer was conscious and talking.  "She was talking and she was able to make sense.  She was just really concerned about the other officer,"  Duley told WFDL news.  "They apparently were attempting to go somewhere and she wanted to make sure the job was still going to be done, so she was very concerned about everyone else and not herself."    The state patrol was called to investigate the accident.
