11-13-13 fdl convention and visitors bureau chief backs holiday inn expansion

The president of the Fond du lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says a  proposed conference center at the Holiday Inn is good news for the motel and community.   The Holiday Inn is planning to invest $10 million at its Fond du lac location over the next couple of years including a 16,000 square
foot conference center.  Fond du lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau president Craig Molitor
says there is a need to increase and modernize meeting space as it pertains to Fond du lac’s overall tourism product.  Molitor says in 2011 Fond du lac County led the entire state in the percentage of growth in tourism dollars spent and was number two in hiring growth.  He says 75 percent of the money visitors spend in a community is not spent on lodging.  The city council will vote on a development agreement at their meeting this evening.   In addition to a conference center, a new Italian restaurant will replace the existing restaurant at the Holiday Inn.
