A Waupun man is in custody following a high speed chase. Police chief Dale Heeringa
says police received a welfare check call from the hospital for a person who was treated in the emergency room.
Heeringa says the hospital was concerned because the man smelled of alcohol as he was leaving the
hospital. "I think the hospital made a wise decision by calling as a community caretaker for the safety of the community with person, that he should not have been driving," Heeringa told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program. "...officers located the vehicle going at a high rate of speed on North Madison Street leaving the city limits on county trunk M." Heeringa says the suspect’s vehicle was clocked at close to
100 miles an hour before it was pulled over. Officers arrested the man at gunpoint.
