MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker says he senses no "significant movement" to legalize gay marriage in Wisconsin. Walker was asked about the issue Wednesday, two days after the ACLU filed a federal lawsuit challenging the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage. Walker has been a supporter of that 2006 constitutional amendment and has long opposed same-sex marriage.
His Democratic opponent in this year's governor's race, Mary Burke, supports legalizing same-sex marriage. Walker wasn't as outspoken in support of the constitutional ban as he's been in the past when he's discussed it. He says as governor he's obligated to uphold the constitution and defending it in court is up to the attorney general, not him.
