2-13-14 frozen chosen on pbs thursday night

The public has another opportunity to view a remarkable documentary that shows two families' long histories catching the elusive and primitive Lake Sturgeon.   Emmy award-winning director Steve Boettcher's film "The Frozen Chosen" features the Muche and Schumacher families. Both are from the Fond du Lac area and have storied pasts spearing sturgeons.  The show will air Thursday night on PBS.  Anglers sometimes spend years searching for the fish, which can weigh in at hundreds of pounds. Boettcher, an Appleton native, says his film focuses on state agencies' attempts to protect the species' population.  "The odds are about 7 percent that you're going to see a sturgeon down the hole,"  Boettcher told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.  "Somebody in the documentary said its like duck hunting up a chimney."   The premiere aired a week ago at Fond du Lac's Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts.
