4-29-13 high cliff state park expansion proposal

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — A state agency is proposing to add more than 1,800 acres to High Cliff State Park, a plan that would more than double the size of the Calumet County recreational area. The Department of Natural Resources has drafted a plan to expand and upgrade the park. But the state would have to buy the parcels of land from more than 100 landowners, at an estimated cost of about $9 million.  The public is invited to hear about the plan and comment on the park's future at a May 7 meeting at the Sherwood Community Center.  The park expansion could take years, but upgrading the infrastructure and facilities could begin as early as this year.  High Cliff attracts more than 400,000 visitors each year.
