The Fond du Lac School board is expected to meet this month
in a workshop to discuss the District’s new censorship policy regarding
the high school newspaper. The
tentative meeting is scheduled for Monday June 23rd. School superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says an internal
committee will bring recommendations to the workshop session. The censorship policy was implemented in March following an
article in the Cardinal Columns student newspaper titled “The Rape
Joke.” Meanwhile, the superintendent censored a couple of stories
in the final edition of the school newspaper…requiring a change to a headline,
told students to add
another source on a story about a teen parent , to remove a
section from a humor column regarding a fake “Fight Club,” and
rewording a piece on expressions of homosexuality in popular culture.
