The policy director of a domestic violence victim support
group says three bills signed into law by governor Walker this week will save
lives. Tony Gibart with End Abuse Wisconsin joined other advocates
and survivors at this week’s bill signing ceremony. Gibart says the SAFE Act will require courts to verify that
violent offenders surrender their firearms. Assembly bill 176 adds stalking to the definition of
domestic abuse under Wisconsin’s restraining order laws. Senate bill 160 will ensure that police refer victims to
services after law enforcement responds to a domestic violence incident.
