A Ripon College political science professor says he wasn’t
completely shocked to hear that Fond du Lac Congressman Tom Petri had decided
not to seek re-election. Petri made the formal announcement Monday afternoon at a
town hall meeting in Neenah. Ripon
College political science professor Marty Farrell says he didn’t believe Petri was vulnerable even from a challenge within
his own party. "The far right wing of the Republican party may not be happy with him but he crossed the aisle enough times so he doesn't really make independents or even many Democrats angry with him," Farrell told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program. Farrell says two specific areas that Petri had an impact on were transportation and education. The 73 year old Petri has been in Congress since 1979.
