A Fond du Lac school board member says he wants the board to
set a deadline for raising money to help fund a new $1.1 million
entrance to Fond du Lac High School’s Fruth football field. The district borrowed more than $400,000 from its fund
balance to pay for the project promising to pay back the money when the
funds are raised. But
nearly a year after the entrance opened the project is still more than $400,000 short. School board member Mark Jurgella says that’s a lot of money
that could have been used for other more valuable education programs or
staff. "I had some skepticism when this came about...we put no deadline for repayment on it which I disagree with," Jurgella told WFDL news. "At what point are we going to have the discussion that this is money we could be using within the district in classrooms for either teachers, technology or other items that are used every day?" Jurgella says its disingenuous to say it doesn’t involve
taxpayer money. Jurgella says he plans to raise the issue at a school board
retreat this summer.
