4-7-14 veterans home-expansion

KING, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill to create a new skilled nursing facility in central Wisconsin.  The $80 million measure signed Friday will help upgrade a century-old facility that serves more than 700 veterans.  The money will be used to set up a new 200-bed building on campus.
The home's Commandant Jim Knight says currently facilities are obsolete, lacking storage room for modern equipment such as electric scooters.  He also says the new building will be better equipped to handle a new generation of incoming veterans. He says many of the newer veterans fought in Vietnam, and their needs are different from those of World War II and Korean War veterans.  The new hall is expected to open in 2019.
