A Fond du Lac school board member says he thinks an article
written for the high school newspaper was excellent. The article focused on how the school’s rape culture affects sex abuse
survivors. After it was
published the superintendent
ordered that the principal must review all articles before
they are published. School Board member Mark Jurgella says he doesn’t understand the school
administration’s concerns about how the article was presented. Jurgella it seems that the district was more concerned about
the school’s image than the rape culture problem exposed by the
article and says he hopes the school district takes steps to
address problems raised by the story. "Raising the awareness like this article did will hopefully bring forward some actions on behalf of the school administration and the board too if need be," Jurgella told WFDL news. "If we have to incorporate that into our educational proocess or our daily process at the school to make sure this (rape culture) isn't routine, that we accept this sort of language and behavior."
