Over 1000 signatures have been collected on a petition
protesting the censorship by Fond du lac school officials regarding the Fond du lac High School Cardinal Columns student newspaper. The online petition was circulated after the school
superintendent issued a mandate that all stories have to meet the High
school principal’s approval before they
are published. The new policy followed a controversial story written by a student about the rape culture within the high school and its impact
on rape survivors…sparked by a rape joke posted on Twitter by a student. Fond du Lac High School principal Jon Wiltzius says school
officials were concerned about a questionable
picture and potential confidentiality concerns. But the director of ASTOP, Linda Selk Yerges, says she
applauds the student for writing the article and thinks the district overreacted. The author of the article, Tanvi Kumar, will be a guest LIVE at 9:30am on AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.
