3-7-14 heroin summit

The co-chair of Drug Free Communities-Fond du lac County says it’s a problem that’s out of control.   What has been described as a heroin epidemic is the focus of a public forum in Fond du Lac next week.
Karen Rusk says for many heroin addicts the problem started with prescription medication.  Rusk says part of the problem is that heroin is less intimidating than it used to be 30 or 40 years ago…its easy to find, not that expensive  and you no longer have to inject it.  She says young people don’t think they can overdose.  "We have been seeing this in the community for the past four or five years and it really is starting to come to a head right now,"  Rusk told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.  A heroin summit will be held starting at 6:30pm next Tuesday at Marian University.  The forum is free and open to the public.
