The Mount Calvary Fire Chief says a weekend fire that
destroyed a building at St. Lawrence
Seminary may have started in the elevator shaft. Chief Mark Petrie says that is where the first alarm
sounded. But Petrie says an exact location of origin or what started the fire may
never be known. Petrie says the elevator shaft is too far damaged to
determine if there may have been and electrical problem. Petrie says he believes the fire probably started 20-30 minutes before it was first reported. The fire destroyed St. Joseph Hall which housed the school
administrative offices and music room.
Firefighters from 41 departments helped battle
the blaze. There were
no injuries.
