Cash bail has been set at $5000 for a Fond du lac man
accused of indiscriminately firing shots from a handgun and assault rifle this
week. Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm set bail following a bail bond hearing in Fond du Lac County
Circuit Court. The hearing was requested by attorney Michael O’Rourke who is
representing 19 year old Mason Paasch. O’Rourke said his client has been sitting in jail since he
was arrested Wednesday night and has not yet been formally charged. The prosecutor said that’s because the DA’s Office is still waiting for the police report. Assistant DA Andrew Christenson told the judge he expects Paasch will make his initial court
appearance Monday. Paasch was arrested Wednesday and faces charges of
recklessly endangering safety,
operating a firearm while intoxicated and carrying a
concealed weapon. Police say after firing a handgun into the air following a fight outside a Fond du Lac
home, Paasch is accused firing an assault rifle into the air when
confronted by a neighbor in North Fond du Lac.
North Fond du lac police chief Darren Pautsch says Paasch then dropped the gun and fled on foot. Paasch and his father were in a car when
police surrounded the vehicle at gunpoint. Pautsch says the father told officers his son had told him that he had crashed his bike and that they were going to retrieve his bike. Pautsch says its a very disturbing situation. "We know we have a mobile suspect, we know that he has multiple weapons, so certainly it had the potential to be a lot worse than it was," Pautsch told WFDL news. Pautsch says it appears that alcohol was a factor in this
week’s incident. Meanwhile, Paasch can also be seen posing on his FaceBook page armed with an
assault rifle.
