10-11-13 fdl area foundation legacy awards
The Fond du Lac Area Foundation awarded
their prestigious “Legacy” awards at the 9th annual “Celebration of Giving”
dinner on October 3, 2013. The “Legacy”
award was established in 2005 to recognize outstanding philanthropy and
significant commitment to the Fond du
Lac community. The
event was attended by over 150 people and the Foundation also recognized over
40 people in attendance who have already established funds to benefit the
community. Fond du Lac Family YMCA
Executive Director & CEO Greg Giles gave a great speech on going 'All In'
for your community and how you can do that through the Fond du Lac Area
Foundation. The “Legacy Awards" for the evening were
presented to Harold & Zoe Barfknecht and Cops for Kids. They were recognized for their significant
philanthropic contributions that they have made to help improve the quality of
life in our community. This year's event concluded with a special
award. A name was drawn from everyone in
attendance and the winner received a $500 grant to donate to the local charity
of his or her choice. Scott Brutosky was
the lucky winner this year. The Fond du
Lac Area Foundation continually strives to further charitable giving and
philanthropy in our community. The Fond du Lac Area Foundation was established with a
contribution of $53,000 from the disbanded Fond du Lac Children’s Home in 1975. In 2013, 38 years later, community members
have established over 280 funds and one supporting organization, the Sophia
Foundation, Inc., with a combined market value of more than $25,000,000. Each of those funds represent a unique
charitable interest, including support for scholarships, churches, youth activities,
the arts, the needy, the environment, etc.
Those endowment funds are now generating more than $800,000 each year
that is being returned to the community in the form of charitable grants and
scholarships. If you would like more
