9-13-13 hwy construction crew flagman struck by vehicle and seriously injured

A construction firm  flagman was seriously injured in a three vehicle accident in Dodge County.  The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Friday morning on Highway 26  near Wilson Road, in the Township of Clyman.  Highway 26 was closed for more than 2 hours while the crash was being investigated.
Preliminary investigation shows that a Grand Caravan was traveling south on Sth 26 in a construction zone approaching a heavy  equipment entrance on the roadway which was controlled by Mashuda construction personnel.  The van  began to slow and was struck from behind by a southbound tractor/trailer .  The van traveled into the northbound traffic lane and struck a northbound Ford Van  which sent the Ford Van into a spin.  The Ford Van traveled onto the east shoulder and struck a Mushuda Construction flagman.  Twenty nine year old Kurt Zuelsdorf, from Appleton,  was transported from the scene by Flight for Life helicopter to Froedert Hospital in Milwuakee.  The driver of the Caravan, 67 year old John Starks, of Cambria  was transported by Ambulance to Beaver Dam Community Hospital.  The other drivers were not injured.    The Dodge County Crash Investigation Team and Wisconsin State Patrol continue to investigate the  crash.
