The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Free Throw Championship, Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Parkside Elementary School, 475 West Arndt Street, Fond du Lac, WI.  Boys and Girls ages 9 – 14 years of age as of January 1, 2014 are eligible.  Registration is at 12:00 noon with competition to follow.  A parent or guardian must be present to sign the registration form.  If you have any questions, call Al Kraus at 517-5581 or Dick & Cathy Mielke at 921-6054 

1-4-14 sigma charity donations

SIGMA, a local women's service organization, donates thousands of dollars each year to local charities and families in need. In 2013 there were thirty charities and numerous families receiving SIGMA funding. Proceeds from the 2012 Holiday House event allowed SIGMA to give back $20,600 to the community. The 2013 Holiday House was also a great success and appropriations from this year’s event will be made in spring. SIGMA is looking forward to an even bigger and better 2014 Holiday House event at the new venue – Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Expo Center.

1-4-14 4k open house registration schedule

The Fond du Lac School District will again be offering a half-day, 4-year-old-kindergarten (4K) experience for Fall 2014. Children who will be 4 years old on or by September 1, 2014, are eligible to attend.  Currently there are classrooms at the following District elementary schools: Chegwin, Pier, Riverside, Rosenow, and Waters. Programs will also be offered at the following community partner sites: Camelot Children’s Center, Christian Parents for Kids, Children’s Choice, ADVOCAP Head Start, Hope Preschool, Kids Connection, Kidz Choice Learning Center, Marian University Early Childhood Center, Mary Linsmeier, Shining Stars Learning Center, Wright Care Kiddie Kampus Daycare and Preschool, and the YMCA.   Parents interested in visiting any of our community partners before registration begins, or at any time, may call the center directly and schedule an appointment.  Registration for the 4K program will be from February 3-10 and will be held at one of the District’s five participating elementary schools based on the following schedule: Monday, February 3 – Riverside School; Tuesday, February 4 - Pier School; Wednesday, February 5 - Waters School; Thursday, February 6 - Rosenow School; and, Monday, February 10 - Chegwin School. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for these parent and child sessions.  Please call 906-6513 to register. Times for the parent and child sessions will be either 9:00 a.m. OR 1:30 p.m. and will run approximately one hour. Sessions will be filled on a first call basis. Parents need not attend at the neighborhood school.  For those parents who are unable to attend a daytime parent and child registration, a parent only evening registration will be held on Tuesday, February 4 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Theisen Middle School – Auditorium, 525 East Pioneer Road. No pre-registration is necessary for this session.  When registering, parents will need to bring proof of birth to complete the registration paperwork. At registration, parents will be given information about the program.  Questions will be answered on the opportunities offered at the different sites, transportation, and out of district open enrollment. 1-3-14 waupun mayor not running for re-election

Waupun mayor Jodi Steger admits she was caught off guard when the city administrator announced he would be running for mayor this spring…and says she will not seek re-election.   Steger says news

that city administrator Kyle Clark would be retiring as administrator and running for mayor was a shock.  "I did not know that was coming down,"  Steger told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.  "I had fully intended to run for mayor again.  There were still things I would like to see accomplished but I just felt at this time it wouldn't be good for the city to have both of us running for the same position."   Steger says she supported Clark as the city administrator and thoughthe had done a great job.  Steger will be stepping down in April after serving 10 years as mayor and three decades in public service.

1-3-14 fdl county board races

A number of contested races are shaping up for Fond du lac County board.  The deadline for filing nomination papers is Tuesday and Clerk Lisa Freiberg says there are potential races in four supervisory districts.  In District five incumbent Mike Gannon faces a challenge from Sarah Everson,

state treasurer Kurt Schuller and Tom Schumacher have taken out papers to run for the District 8 seat.  Incumbent John Muentner Sr. is not running for re-election.   In District 21, former Fond du lac County Sheriff’s captain Dean Will plans to challenge incumbent John Meyst and in District 23 Joe Thurman Jr. and Kay Miller have taken out papers.  Incumbent Jim Kaiser is not running for re-election.  Freiberg says all supervisory seats are up for election….and there is still time to file nomination papers.

1-3-14 state treasurer running for fdl county board

The state treasurer plans to run for local office.  Kurt Schuller lives in the Eden area and is running for the open District 8 seat on the Fond du lac County Board.  The seat is being vacated by John Muentner Sr. who is not running for re-election.  "I have great respect for supervisor Muentner and I saw that he was not running again and of course I take a great interest in politics in where I live as well as in the state,"  Schuller told WFDL news.  "I thought it was an opportunity that I could try and keep Fond du Lac County on the upward progression."  Schuller says he’s not sure if an elected state official has served at the local level at the same time.  He may be the first state treasurer to do so.  He points out that a Manitowac County Executive also served in the state legislature.

1-3-14 first baby of the new year-fdl and beaver dam

Fond du lac's St. Agnes Hospital has welcomed its first baby of the New Year. Ezekiel Anthony Freeman was born on Wednesday, January 1 at 5:06 p.m. to Jessica and Anthony Freeman, of Fond du Lac. He weighed six pounds and nine ounces, and was 19 and three-quarters inches long.   He is joined by siblings: Bethany, 10; Callista, four; and Douglas, two.  Brita McCullough, MD, a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist with Agnesian HealthCare’s Fond du Lac Regional Clinic, delivered Ezekiel Anthony Freeman. As the first baby of the year, Ezekiel Anthony Freeman and his family received a basket full of gifts from St. Agnes Hospital’s Women & Infants Unit associates.

Beaver Dam Community Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2014 as Dr. Ken Ostermann delivered Claire Elizabeth Nielsen at 6:49 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Claire was born 20 inches long and weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and is the daughter of Beaver Dam’s Michael and Elizabeth Nielsen, who are first-time parents. The beautiful new baby and her beaming parents received a bountiful basket of gifts to honor the occasion as the 2014 BDCH New Year Baby. Included in the basket were assorted baby clothing, a baby blanket, infant toys, a $50 Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a hand print kit and photo album, and a six-month supply of diapers.
