9-6-13 highway 26 high intensity enforcement detail

Local law enforcement hopes a high intensity traffic enforcement results in a continued decrease in large truck crashes and fatalities on Highway 26 in Fond du Lac County.  State patrol sergeant Karl Middlestadt says on September 4th  patrol officers  focused on extra traffic enforcement on commercial motor vehicles and the automobiles traveling around them in the area of Highway 26 and County Highway TC.  "I've been an inspector in Fond du Lac County now for 16 years and Highway 26 from Rosendale to Highway 151, in my opinion, hs to be one of the most dangerous roads in our county,"  Middlestadt told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.   The effort resulted in 31 vehicle stops.  Speeding citations were issued to drivers of 22 passenger vehicles and two semi trucks.  Middlestadt says the highest passenger vehicle speed was 88 miles an hour in the 55 mph zone.  Middlestadt says speeding, coupled with heavy truck traffic makes for a dangerous
combination.   The state patrol says 17 cars were passing or affecting safe commercial motor vehicle operation. Similar traffic enforcement efforts are planned throughout the year.
