9-13-13 fdl man gets probation and jail for distracted driving fatality

A Fond du Lac man convicted in connection with a distracted driving fatal automobile crash has been placed on probation.  Fond du lac judge Richard Nuss stayed a four year prison sentence and placed 32 year old Joseph Morales on six years probation with a conditional nine months in the county jail.  According to a criminal complaint Morales told investigators he looked down to answer his phone just before the May 2012 crash on Pioneer Road near Grove Street.   The driver of the other car Loraine Ryan died from her injuries 18 days  after the crash.  A passenger in her car received serious injuries.
