9-10-13 fdl animal neglect case draws national attention

A  Fond du Lac animal neglect case is drawing national attention.  Fond du Lac animal shelter manager Renee Webb tells AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program she received a call from the Humane Society of the United States last week after a Fond du lac judge ordered several puppies that had been removed from a Fond du Lac home in July be returned to the owner who is charged with animal neglect.  Judge Gary Sharpe ordered the puppies returned to Stacy Checolinski after her attorney pointed out that three of them died when a parvo virus swept through the animal shelter last month.  "I was contacted by the Humane Society of the United States on Friday and they have asked that their state's attorney step in on the case to consult with the District Attorney's Office,"  Webb said.   Meanwhile Webb says her daughter recently opened a FaceBook page encouraging residents to sign a petition trying to get the judge to reverse his decision.  "The response has been unbelievable.  That particular post has literally drawn in 30,000 plus people,"  Webb said.  "I know there have been numerous, hundreds of signatures in regard to trying to get that ruling reversed."  Checolinski faces ten counts each of neglecting to provide proper water to confined animals and failure to provide proper indoor animal shelter ventilation.  The puppies were found in a tarp  covered crate in the backyard of an 8th Street home during a hot,  humid day back in July.
