3-5-14 wi woman pleads guilty in dog torture death case

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — A 21-year-old Wausau woman has pleaded guilty to fatally torturing a dog belonging to her former boyfriend.  Sean Janas pleaded guilty in Marathon County to mistreating an animal resulting in death and intentionally poisoning an animal.  Janas entered a plea deal Tuesday with prosecutors. As part of the deal, charges of obstructing an officer will be dismissed as well as an unrelated theft case from Washington County.  Prosecutors say Janas poured bleach and Drano down the throat of a German shepherd-Labrador mix named Mary who died in June 2012.  Prosecutors also say Janas kept a diary detailing how she hated the dog and saying she hoped it died.

3/5/14 phillips wi mayor wants police chief fired

PHILLIPS, Wis. (AP) — The mayor of a north central Wisconsin city has filed a complaint against the police chief.   Phillips Mayor Charles Peterson is accusing Chief David Sonntag of intentionally falsifying legal documents in 2012 and illegally pulling over a citizen in 2013. He wants the chief to be suspended and then, after a review, fired.  Sonntag, who has been chief for nine years,says  he has been advised not to comment.  The complaint, filed Feb. 18, is being reviewed by the police review committee. They have brought in an attorney from Madison to help with the investigation.  A public hearing is scheduled for March 11.

3-4-14 high speed chase

On Monday, March 03, 2014 at 7:24 pm the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an attempt to locate from Fox Valley Metro Police Dept regarding a reckless driver southbound on Hwy 41 from Winnebago County. Information was also obtained that the driver may have a weapon and had made threats.  At Approximately 730 pm a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper and FDL Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle on Hwy 41 SB near Hwy 23, the driver failed to stop and led deputies/officers on a pursuit southbound on Hwy 41. As deputies tried to deploy stop sticks just north of CTH Y, the vehicle traveled through a turnaround and proceeded NB on Hwy 41. The vehicle exited at CTH B where the driver slammed on his brakes and collided with a FDL County Sheriff’s Squad. The squad rolled over. The driver continued WB on CTH B, then NB on Hwy 175. The vehicle entered the city of Fond du Lac where the FDL Police Dept joined in the pursuit. The vehicle traveled east on CTH VV, then south on CTH V to USH 151 and then south on USH 151.  The vehicle continued SB on USH 151 into Dodge County, where the vehicle turned west onto Oakwood rd, after a few miles the vehicle turned into a driveway off Oakwood Rd. The vehicle traveled around some outbuildings and was struck by a FDL County Sheriff’s Squad, bringing the vehicle to a stop. The suspect, a 37 yr old male from Appleton, was taken into custody without further incident. He was not injured.  Total Distance was 45 miles. The Driver was taken into custody for Eluding an Officer and other charges related to this incident.  The 46 year old Sheriff’s Deputy involved in the crash on CTH B just off Hwy 41 was transported to St Agnes Hospital by FDL Fire Dept Paramedics where he was treated and released.  Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Deputies, Wisconsin State Patrol, City of Fond du Lac Police Dept, Waupun Police Dept, City of Fond du Lac Paramedics, Oakfield FD & First Responders, and Dodge County Sheriff’s office were involved in this incident.

3-4-14 children removed from dodge county home

A baby and toddler have been removed from a town of Burnett home with what were described as  “deplorable” conditions and the mother faces child neglect charges in Dodge County.  Twenty five year old Secoy Koch-Miller is scheduled to make her initial court appearance next week.    The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department investigated after a Dodge County Jail inmate told authorities he was concerned for his

newborn daughter and her two year old stepbrother.  According to a criminal complaint home inspectors noticed a strong odor of animal feces and urine and rotting food, found maggots in the refrigerator,  toilets full of human waste and clutter throughout the home.   According to medical reports the two year old was covered with bug bites, had a bruised eye and his hair was full of spiders and spider eggs.  The toddler weighed only 20 pounds and was black in color because he was covered in filth.  The home is now vacant and town officials have started the condemnation process.

3-4-14 highway 41 injury accident

A couple of people were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries following a traffic accident on Highway 41 in Fond du lac County.   Sheriff’s captain Rick Olig says the first accident was a rollover on 41 near County Trunk B and the second accident occurred when a car slowed in the southbound lane near the scene of the first accident and was rear-ended by another vehicle.  

3-4-14 brownsville man severely burned

A Brownsville man has been flown by helicopter to the hospital after reportedly suffering severe burns.
The  Flight for Life helicopter was called to the Zinkes Farms at W6458 County Trunk Y around noon Monday for a report of a man who sustained severe burns to his legs when his pants started on fire. The incident remains under investigation.

3-4-14 governor's race-attack ad

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A second attack ad against Democrat gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke has been released by the Republican Governors Association. The ad released today is similar to the first one released by the RGA last month in that it focuses on Burke's time spent as state commerce secretary under Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle. Burke is challenging Republican Gov. Scott Walker this year.
