5-2-13 nuclear power plant civil penalty

KEWAUNEE, Wis. (AP) — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing a $70,000 civil penalty against the owner of the Kewaunee nuclear power plant. An investigation concluded that a fire brigade trainer falsely claimed that fire drills were completed. Regulators say Dominion Energy has taken corrective measures.

5-2-13 circus world museum-financial picture

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Circus World Museum officials say their financial situation isn't as bad as state analysts say. A Legislative Fiscal Bureau analysis said the museum's 2013 operating budget assumed expenses would outpace revenues by $97,500. The spending plan approved in December assumes the museum will generate $70,000 more.

5-2-13 deck fire

Nobody was injured  in a fire that damaged a backyard deck of a Fond du lac residence.   Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says firefighters were called to the East Merrill Avenue home shortly before 2:30pm Tuesday.  O’Leary says the fire started after the resident discarded a cigarette butt in a metal container on the deck.  O’Leary says the fire was large enough to burn through the deck.

5-2-13 missing toddler found safe

Fond du lac Police say a five year old toddler knew where he was going when he walked away from his home early Tuesday morning.  Police say the boy decided to walk to his grandmother’s house on Scott Street when police officers found him on the sidewalk several blocks from his home. 

5-2-13 fdl man convicted of robbery

A Janesville man  has been convicted of participating in an armed robbery in Fond du Lac.    A Fond du Lac jury returned the guilty verdict Tuesday against 26 year old Ian Koch on a charge of party to the crime of  armed robbery.  Koch and Luis Rivera were accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in the Briarcrest apartments parking lot November 30^TH.  A pre-sentence investigation was ordered.

5-1-13 wisconsin budget-transportation

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Legislature's budget committee has adopted parts of the state Department of Transportation's plan to close a $63.5 million deficit in the state's roads fund.  The DOT's proposal would revise Gov. Scott Walker's executive budget to delay segments of Milwaukee-area freeway reconstruction, cut funding for highway projects and cut local road aids.  The Republican-controlled committee worked around the edges of the deficit Tuesday, adopting parts of DOT's plan that call for reducing funding for congestion mitigation and scaling back the state's contract with Amtrak to run a Milwaukee-to-Chicago passenger rail line to reflect cost re-estimates.  The committee also deleted budget provisions that would have added nearly 30 more State Patrol inspectors and safety investigators.  Committee leaders say they'll deal with the rest of the shortfall in the coming weeks.

5-1-13 fdl residents face drug charges

Four Fond du lac residents have made their initial court appearances on drug related charges.  Bail was set at $5000 cash for 24 year old Christina Mariades who is charged with four counts of  delivery of heroin and maintaining a drug trafficking place.  Five hundred dollars cash bail was ordered for 33 year old Janet Gray, and 35 year old Sheteaka Noblin on charges of manufacture-delivery of cocaine.
Nineeteen year old  Jacob Bera, is charged with possession of THC and drug paraphernalia and maintaining drug trafficking place.  He is free on a signature bond.
