The Fond du Lac city council got its first look at the
proposed budget at Wednesday night’s meeting.
City manager Joe Moore unveiled the $30.1 million budget…up from $29.9 million in 2013. "The city of Fond du Lac's finances are in good shape," Moore told WFDL news. "Our bond rating has been maintained, the budget is a balanced budget and it even uses less fund balance to support the budget than in years past." Moore says the proposed property tax levy is up three percent to $21.5 million. Moore says since 2013, tax levy funds available for general
fund operations have fallen 10-percent primary because of increasing debt service
requirements. Moore says there are no cuts in programs or staff. In fact there some areas of increased expenditures including for a citywide property revaluation
and new five new Police Community Service Officers. Moore says the budget includes $200,000 for general street
maintenance and he would actually like that to be more. A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for September 25th, budget workshop October 2nd and budget adoption on October 23rd.
