9-10-13 gas spill at merc
On
Monday, September 9, 2013 at 7:17 p.m., the City of Fond du Lac Fire Department
responded to Mercury Marine Plant 15 for a reported gasoline spill inside the
plant. Upon arrival crews confirmed that approximately 50 gallons of gasoline
had discharged into a large tunnel. Due
to the extreme hazardous condition in a confined space and the threat of a
possible ignition of the vapors, the building was evacuated and firefighters
began to ventilate the area. Mercury Marine contacted a remediation company who
arrived on the scene to mitigate the spill. Crews
remained on the scene for several hours until the conditions inside the plant
were no longer hazardous. The
remediation company removed and cleaned the product until there were no
flammable vapors or liquids detectable.
There were no injuries reported.
