Wisconsin’s Lieutenant governor says prison inmates are
helping the state meet its milk production goal.
Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch visited the Waupun
Correctional Institution’s dairy farm Tuesday as part of National Dairy
month. Kleefisch says inmates at the farm are helping the state
reach its goal of 30 billion pounds of milk by 2020. Kleefisch says farm provides inmates with job training and
life skills which cuts down on recidivism. Kleefisch says the milk and ice cream produced at Waupun are
distributed to Wisconsin’s prison institutions and sold to Minnesota’s
prison system.
