6-10-14 veterans health care wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Data from the Veterans Affairs Department shows the average wait for a new patient at Wisconsin's three major VA medical centers is longest at the hospital in Madison.  The average wait there is nearly 51 days, more than three-times longer than the VA's 14-day target for wait times.  The audit released Monday shows that 525 veterans in Wisconsin have been waiting more than three months for medical appointments. An additional 405 people who enrolled for VA health care over the past decade have never been seen by a doctor.  The VA hospital in Madison by far had the longest waiting period of any in Wisconsin. The average wait for the facility in Milwaukee was just short of 24 days, while it was 17 days for the medical center in Tomah.
