5-13-14 wisconsin armored trucks

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — Police in the Fox Cities say hundreds of high-risk incidents in the past decade justify their need for Army-grade trucks.  Neenah police are working to dispel what they say is negative public perception regarding the mine-resistant Caiman multi-terrain vehicle. The department got the free truck through the U.S. Department of Defense's excess property program.  The department will use the truck during incidents involving high-powered weapons and dangerous hostage situations.
Neenah police Capt. Tom Long says the town has averaged 52 to 54 high-risk incidents annually in the last decade. His department joins the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department and Appleton police in using one of the 37,000-pound vehicles.  The Caiman will replace Neenah's older armored vehicle, which police say wouldn't stop high-powered bullets.
