4-9-14 gas main leak new holstein

Authorities evacuated about 30 homes as a precaution after a major gas main break in New Holstein. Police Capt. Jeff Hebl, who is the city's emergency management director, says a road construction crew hit a high-pressure line late Wednesday afternoon.  Hebl says the outage affected 500 to 700 residents in the town of about 3,500. He says the American Red Cross is helping, and a shelter was set up in the high school.  Hebl says no one was hurt and there's been no explosion. He expects it will be a couple hours before the gas leak is capped.
