Washington
D.C. - U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin will visit with students and staff at
STEM Academy and tour Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac on Friday, April 4,
2014. STEM
Academy is an elementary public charter school focused on science,
technology, engineering and math studies where students learn from hands
on, project-based assignments.
The school was founded through a partnership with the Fond du Lac
School District and local manufacturer, Mercury Marine, which offers
technical expertise, technological resources and access to its
engineering facilities to make class projects more interesting
and engaging. Mercury benefits by working with a high-quality school
that addresses the skills gap to ensure that young people develop the
necessary job skills to succeed. Baldwin will tour the academy, hear
from students, and see projects in action. Baldwin
will also visit Mercury Marine’s headquarters where she will meet with
President Mark Schwabero and tour the assembly plant. Mercury Marine has
had five major
expansions over the last few years, which have broadened their ability
to compete in the global marketplace. In addition, Baldwin will see
assembly of the 150 FourStroke outboard, a new product launched in 2012.
Mercury Marine’s Fond du Lac facility employs
3,100 workers.
