4-10-14 achievement gap task force

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin is pairing up teachers and principals in a grassroots effort to close the state's nation-leading student achievement gap among minority and poor populations.  State Superintendent Tony Evers unveiled the Promoting Excellence For All Task Force Wednesday. The meeting started with brief remarks from Evers about issues that were laid out in a report last year.
Task force chair Demond Means said the group's ground level approach will find problem areas in educating all groups of children. The group will then create what Means called a tool kit for the state's 60,000 teachers to use later this year.  Members of a federally funded research group called the approach unique to Wisconsin and said it should help the state start closing its gap as soon as next year.
