2-14-14 pig virus

The Fond du Lac County Dairy and Livestock agent says it appears the spread of a virus that's killed millions of pigs across the country will get worse before it gets better.  Tina Coleman says the PED virus has been found in 23 states including six confirmed cases in Wiscosnin.  Wisconsin officials are imposing new restrictions on showing swine at county fairs.  Coleman says that includes banning the spring weigh in for pigs that will be shown at the fair.  Coleman says another recommendation from the state veterinarian is to have terminal swine shows.  As many as 4 million pigs have died since the virus first surfaced in April 2013.  Coleman says there is great concern on the potential overall impact to the swine industry.
