2-11-14 medical license training

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two legislators with a medical background have introduced a bill that would require two years of training for medical school graduates before they could receive a doctor's license in Wisconsin. The state currently requires one year.  The legislation has been introduced by Republican Rep. Erik Severson, a doctor, and GOP Sen. Leah Vukmir, a nurse. The requirement would apply to graduates of U.S. and foreign medical schools. Many states require one year of post-graduate training for graduates of U.S. schools and two or three years for foreign school graduates.  Former Wisconsin Medical Examining Board chairman Dr. Sheldon Wasserman told the State Journal that Wisconsin has become a "dumping ground for bad physicians who want to get their foot in the American medical system."
