A Fond du Lac registered nurse hopes to be able to raise
enough money so he can begin training for the ultimate mountain climbing
experience…to summit the world’s tallest peak, Mount Everest next
spring.
Andy Land is hoping to get sponsors to pay for the
expedition. "The permit is $10,000 just by itself. Expedition costs will be about $40,000," Land said. Land has climbed some tall mountains in the past including Mt. McKinley in
Alaska in 2002, and Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina three years ago, but nothing compares to Everest. "It really is getting a lot more serious and I never really thought before that I would have been qualified to go. There's a huge difference between 23,000 (feet) and 29,000 feet." Land says if he is able to secure sponsors to help pay for
the quest his training would have to begin about a year in advance .
