Food safety officials at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture,
Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) are advising consumers to avoid
eating products manufactured by Garden-Fresh Foods, a Milwaukee-based
company, due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
This follow up to the company’s latest recall includes all products
sold under various brands and code dates. A comprehensive list of
products is available on the FDA website: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm374295.htm?source=govdelivery&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery.
The company has not received reports of illnesses due to consumption of their products, however Listeria monocytogenes can cause
serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, pregnant
women, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune
systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such
as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and
diarrhea. The products were sold nationwide to retail stores, restaurants and institutions. Garden-Fresh Foods Inc. is concerned that expired product may be frozen in consumer homes. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-645-3367 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00AM- 4:30 PM.
